Frequently Asked Questions

Becoming a Patient

We prioritize accepting newborns and mothers who do not currently have a family doctor.
If you are interested in joining Dr. Aj or Dr. Ojo’s practice, please send a message with your contact information through the contact us email . You will be added to their wait list and contacted as soon as we are able to accept you into their practice.
You can access the Allied Practitioners at our clinic by booking online or requesting an appointment directly through our website – Book appointment here.

  • You will be contacted by the office and set up with our virtual office assistant, Mika.
  • Your consent to use e-communications is essential to access our digital health tools. If you choose not to use digital solutions, we will communicate with you through non-digital methods.
  • You will be asked to complete our New Patient Intake Form, and once received, a 30-minute telephone or video visit will be arranged, followed by a 30-minute in-person visit to meet your doctor and complete your initial check-up.
  • You will be asked to bring your vaccine record, which can be requested online  or through YourHealthNS 

Please request your vaccination records online or through the YourHealthNS app and either bring it with you or send it to us with Mika . 

Please bring the medications, vitamins  and supplements that your regularly use.

Communication

Once you are set up with Mika, appointment notifications, appointment confirmations, messages and documents like lab requisitions are sent to you by the front staff. Your doctor will also use Mika to respond to your questions, send visit summaries and  health information. Please note – you have up to 8 days to retrieve these messages.

E-communications includes booking appointments & sending messages with Mika, receiving notification through text, email or robotic calls and using email to contact us. E-communications can be intercepted or forwarded, increasing the risk of privacy breaches, even with security measures in place. When you join the Coral Shared-Care Health Center, you will be asked to review these risks and sign a consent form to participate in E-Communications. You can opt out of using our digital tools and rely on telephone, paper-mail and in person contact instead. You can also withdraw E-communications consent at any time.

Please do not share any medical information or documents to our email. Email is not a secure way to exchange personal health information. Please use our virtual assistant; Mika

Select the ‘Send information’ button and securely send messages, forms, photos, videos and any other information to the center. Mika offers a secure way to send health information, forms and photos to the clinic. It is quicker than making a phone call and leaving a message if the front staff are busy with other patients.

Appointments

Please visit our Book Appointment page to find your practitioner and booking link. There is unrestricted access to booking appointments with our Allied Service Practitioners. Requesting appointments and sending messages with Mika is restricted to patients in Drs AJ and Ojo’s practices.

Online booking is available for our Allied Care Practitioners

Mika checks with you two days prior to your appointment if you want to cancel the appointment and rebook it. Please use this feature. You can use Mika’s link to cancel this appointment up to the day of the appointment. You can also call the office at 902 420 0033.

Please ensure you respond to the text/email from Mika to confirm or cancel your appointment. You will receive notification two days prior to the appointment date. Appointment times are valuable and can be used by another patient if you are unable to attend. If you have not confirmed you appointment, you will receive a text from staff to check if you will be attending. Your appointment will be cancelled if you do not confirm your appointment.

In addition to being seen in person at the center, you can also request telephone or video appointments. Patients in Drs. AJ and Ojo’s practices can use Mika to make these appointments.

Tests, Referrals & Digital Tools

To get lab tests, x-rays, STI or EKG testing, you are required to book an appointment. You can do this online here or you can book with your mobile app – YourHealthNS

YourHealthNS is a digital doorway to your health information such as vaccine records, medication list and health appointments. It also allows you to book appointments for blood tests, x-rays, STI testing, EKGs etc.

Yes. When you consent to use your email for notification, you will receive updates about your appointments. You can also request a different date or time if you are not able to follow through with the original appointment.

Coverage & Practitioner Access

Yes, you are welcome to see any of the practitioners at the center. Patients not registered in the Family practices at the center can also request appointments with our Allied Health Practitioners.

All health services that are insured by the province are provided free of charge to you by your family doctor(s). Non-insured services are charged to patients. These include completing insurance forms, preparing legal letters, driving medical exams, cryotherapy,  instrument tray fees for biopsies etc. See the list of Non-Insured services. If you cannot cover the cost of Non-insured services, we are happy to assist you. Allied Health Practitioner services like physiotherapy, massage therapy, pedorthist services, counselling etc. are generally covered by Health insurance providers like Blue cross, Canada Life etc. These plans are often available as part of your employment or by private purchase.
